My Tip for Last Years race was Forest Gunner, he ran a great race managed to finished fifth under his feamle amatuer Jockey. This year he is ridden in my opion the best ever Lady Jockey in Nina Carberry. But his form has been poor this year. He may sneak a place and at 50/1 he is good value, but his form is too poor to suggest he can win.
A Mistake many people make is to pick the best horses like Hedgehunter. He won the National last year and finished second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but he carries 11 stone 12 lb and no horse has won carring a weight that big since Red Rum. Only 1 horse since has carried more than 11 stone. So horses like Royal Auclair, Therealbandit, Ollie Magern, Eurotrek and Sir Rembrandt will struggle under big weights especially if the ground is soft.
Only One Horse aged over 12 has won in the past 100 Years so old timers like Amberleigh House, Rince Ri and First Gold best days are long gone. Top Form at 3 Miles is a Must. So Horses who havent won Class A Chases over Three Miles or More Lack the Class or Stamina to Win. Horses Like Ground Ball, Just in Debt, Can be Passed Over.
Jumping is the Name of the Game and horses like Baron Windrush, Ebony Light, Joes Edge who make the odd mistakes cannot be relied upon. Fitness is also important and horses who havent run on the past 6 weeks will struggle like Direct Access and Shotgun Willie.
Four Horses Who Just Fail to make my Short List are Numbersixvalverde, Innox and Clan Royal. They have all won good races, but seem to lack the touch of class required to win a National.
The Great Leate Best Mate has Two Full Brothers Running in this Years National Cornish Rebel and Inca Trail both have a touch of class, but inconsistencent. If Either is there at the elbow expect a big finish. I Slighltly prefer Inca Trail now Trained by Mr Aintree - Ginger McCain.
My Tip is the Decent Irish Chaser Garrovian he has some decent form he jumps and stays and ticks all the right boxes. He has attracted a lot of money in the past few weeks and is a cracking bet at about 20/1.
